Woodland Trust

We've been working closely with the Woodland Trust since 2004 - and you've been a part of this relationship, too. Every time you buy Woodland eggs, chicken or turkey we make a donation to the Woodland Trust to help plant more native trees. Now, we're helping the charity to plant 6 million trees as lead sponsor of its Jubilee Woods project.

Woodland Trust

The relationship between Sainsbury's and the Woodland Trust has gone from strength to strength since 2004 when Sainsbury's Woodland eggs were launched. I'm delighted that they are now the lead sponsor for our Jubilee Woods project.

Sue Holden, Woodland Trust Chief Executive

Jubilee Woods project

The Jubilee Woods project aims to plant 6 million native trees across the UK to commemorate The Queen's Diamond Jubilee. And we're aiming to raise £1.8 million to help plant at least 1 million of those trees. Between now and March 2013, hundreds of woods will be planted, including a flagship Diamond Wood in The National Forest, Leicestershire.

How you can get involved...

With the kids

  • Have a picnic: Head to the woods and teach the children about native trees. Why not have a teddy bears' picnic? We've put together some activity ideas and Woodland recipes.

With your community

  • Plant a tree: Team up with your community or local school and plant your own small Jubilee Wood. The Woodland Trust has free saplings for schools and 1,250 free sapling packs for community groups. We'll also be encouraging schools to plant trees through our Active Kids scheme.

With Sainsbury's

  • Buy Woodland products: We'll make a donation to the Woodland Trust every time you buy Woodland eggs, chicken or turkey.
  • Make a pledge: Later this year you'll be able to make a pledge instore to plant a tree to mark the Jubilee. Keep an eye out here to find out when you can make your pledge.
  • Plant a tree:  Head over to our Facebook page, click 'plant a tree' and we'll plant one of 100,000 real trees on your behalf.

Woodland eggs

Hens that lay Woodland eggs roam free with lots of tree cover. The idea came from John Widdowson, a Devon farmer who noticed that his hens preferred spending their time under trees. Now, every time you buy a dozen Woodland eggs, we make a donation to the Woodland Trust.
